About Mangattidam UP School

Mangattidam is an inland village in the Kannur District of Kerala. During the British rule, the place was in the Kottayam state of Malabar, which was part of the old Madras state. Mangattidam UP School was founded during the dawn of the renaissance movement in Kerala. It is the only educational institution known as Mangattidam in the heart of Mangattidam Panchayath.

Established in 1892, the school was started as Mangattidam Elementary School and was founded by Sri Kannoth Kandi Kanaran who was an Onakkan Gurukkal. He was a scholar and civic leader, and was the school's principal and manager at the time. After his demise, his heirs took over the management of the school and its activities. The school was later handed over to the new management in 2020.

The Alumni Association was formed in the year 1992 during the Centenary celebrations. Shri M Sreedharan was the fouding President and Shri K Prakashan was the Secretary. In 2012, Shri KC Sukesh was chosen as President and Shri V Minish Kumar as Secretary. The organization has been functioning well ever since the foundation.

Mangattidam UP School was the first step on the ladder of success to many around the school, who rose to prominence in the community. Today, the school has about 520 students from pre - primary to seventh grade. More than 26 staff members serve the school as teaching or non-teaching faculties. The PTA has been active since the inception of the school, recognizing that the committee plays an important role in the development of the school.
